The following tips will offer the best opportunity for a quality photo.
  • It is best to take photos outdoors. A hazy day or a "bright" cloudy day. (Bright sun can create very dark shadows)
  • Take plenty of shots. Plan to use at least one roll of film, either 200 or 400 ISO. Take the photo at eye level. Talk to your pet, create expression, interaction, a cocked head expression. Your goal is to have an expressive look that describes your pet. This will add so much personality to your portrait.
  • If your pet has distinct markings make sure to feature them. Look for actions or expressions that best describes your pet. (Ask what actions bring a smile to your face).
  • Don't forget that favorite toy or blanket. To photograph more that one pet together, look for an action shared between, a relationship. This portrait is a memory for you now and for years to come. My goal as the artist is to express the "personality" that is so unique to your pet. My resources are "your" photos.
